Yellow , borne on 20cm stems, heads 1-2cm in diameter with short papery bracts.

Perennial herb with stems much-branched prostrate to semi-erect.

Wrigley and Fagg group this plant with H. scorpioides. Note on distribution: SA. Vic. NSW (H.scorpioides extends to Tas.) Does this mean that H. rutidolepis does not? Very similar to H. scorpiodes but H. rutidolepis has narrower leaves, smaller flower-heads and a more vigorous creeping rootstock. (Elliot and Jones). Tasmania is not included in the range for this plant in Elliot and Jones. Flowers profusely over a long period. Plants can be rejuvenated by cutting back to ground level. Suitable below powerlines. 

Fruit, an achene.when seed is mature achenes loosen in centre of the seedhead which appears fluffy. collect entire seedheads in paper bags and allow to dry

Sieve to clean seed .Seedheads are prone to insect attack and should be dusted with an insecticide. Most species have a two month dormancy. Surface sow. Seed easily collected and germinated.
