Flowers
Flower heads are 2.5-5cm long, and terminal on upright leafy stems. Male and female flowers occur on separate plants. Flowers in spring, or in response to rain.

Form
Branched creeping grass, with rhizomes more than 1m long, and narrow leaf blades up to 5cm long. Old leaf sheaths are persistent.
