Flowers
Flowerstems are downy, curve upwards, and are scarcely longer than the leaves. The flowers are born in short, narrow-cylindrical spikes.

Form
Perennial herb with leaves arising from the base of the stem, interspersed with long silky hairs. Leaf stalks are short, wide, thick and toothed. Leaf blades are broadest above the middle, and sparingly covered with stiff, bristle-like hairs.

General Notes
Grown from seed. Surface sow as light may increase germination. May have an after-ripening period. May be successful in direct seeding. Attracts the migratory Meadow Argus butterfly (Junonia villida calybe), which lays its eggs on the leaves. Suitable below powerlines.
