LFNC says it is widespread in open rocky, sandy or grassy areas from sea level to mountains while Curtis says it is rarely collected and apparently confined to the N.E. and Midlands, dry material difficult to distinguish from B.glauca. Sensitive to drought.

Koori (mainland) use: The bulbous roots were eaten year-round, and were probably cooked. Leaves are toxic to stock. Suitable below powerlines. 

Capsules turn brown and brittle when mature and mature seed is angular and dark brown or black

Seed has 2-3 month dormancy but gives good germination following this.May be useful for direct seeding. Sow in Autumn. For some species seed over 12 months old may require stratification for 6-7 weeks. Temp. may be critical to germination i.e. not over 18oC.
