Habitat Notes
Common in the north and on the central plateau through a wide range of altitudes, occasional near the east coast.Also grows on rocky basalt areas.Lush in lightly shaded gullies but becomes stunted and spiny in exposed dry rocky areas.

General Notes
Very slow growing. Excellent long lived plant for providing low-level shelter (up to 4m) in windbreaks. Provides excellent refuge for small birds and bandicoots due to its prickliness. Suitable below powerlines.

To extract seed soak fruit in a bucket of water. Rub seed to separate from the fruit. By stirring the water and debris the seed should rise to the surface.Stratification for 3-4 weeks at 2-4o may improve results.Older seed or dry should be soaked in a weak solution of acid for 5 mins.
